Prestel: 'Bettina Rheims: Heroines' book
Accomplished French artist and photographer Bettina Rheims uses a distinctive blend of art, fashion, and photography to take the portrait of many famous actresses, models, and performers in an incredibly intimate way. Rather than capturing the women at their most glamourous, Rheims' photos depict very real women (many of whom look like they just ran up several flights of stairs) nude or clothed in haute couture, bathed in cold, artificial light, posing on a big paper mache rock-like pedestal.
