Shalom: 'Hamsa' t-shirt
The Hamsa, or Khamsa, has been chosen as a symbol for peace in the Middle East due to its similar meanings in Judaism and Islam. Known as the Hand of Fatima or the Eye of Fatima in Islam (Fatima being Muhammed's daughter), it is called the Hand of Miriam in the Jewish faith, it serves as an ancient symbol to ward off the evil eye, as the protecting hand of God. Interestingly, the flat hand is also prevalent in Buddhism, as the Abhaya "No-fear" Mudr? - a hand position often used in depictions of enlightened beings. A fitting graphic from the Shalom Cultural Peace Project. by Shalom.
